Interview with Zolboo Dashmyagmar of what3words

 

Today, we’re really excited to introduce you to Zolboo Dashmyagmar, Partnerships Lead, Asia, at what3words. Let’s learn more about her and what what3words is!

 

First of all, thank you for your time Zolboo! Can you please introduce yourself and give us a little background?

 

I help people talk about location everywhere in the world in the simplest way with just three words. I am based in Mongolia and am in charge of business development in Asia. Prior to what3words, my background was in international hospitality as well as in sustainable development where I served as a coordinating youth advisor at the United Nations. Outside of my day-to-day work, I enjoy spending my time on community service.

 

Can you please let us know what what3words is exactly?

 

what3words is the simplest way to talk about location. We have given every 3m square in the world a unique combination of three words from the dictionary. We call it a what3words address. Essentially, people can find, share and communicate any precise location in the world using just three words in over 40 different languages. For example, enter ///tagging.miracles.tomb into the what3words app to navigate to Hokan-ji Temple in Kyoto.

 

Can it be useful for travelers during their trip to Japan? Can you please explain how they can use it and WHY they should use it?

 

Absolutely. Japan is a fascinating travel destination. However, with the issue of non-sequential addressing, anyone who’s going to Japan for the first time and not familiar with the language can quickly get lost. However, with the help of what3words, travelers can now find any precise location using the free what3words app or online map. Even in guidebooks, such as Tokyo Weekender, Time Out Tokyo, and booking confirmations of the experience providers such as Arigato Japan.

 

Also, what3words addresses are accepted in various navigation apps including NAVITIME, the biggest navigation app for travelers in Japan or in S.Ride, a ride-hailing app where you can enter a what3words address for a simple and precise drop-off location. It’s particularly helpful for non-Japanese-speaking tourists to get the most out of their time when exploring hidden gems on the way while experiencing authentic Japanese culture.

 

People can use the app offline without having to worry about internet connection, which is even handier.

 

Why do you think Japan is one of the best places to use this kind of system?

 

When we think of the Hanami season or a great outdoor concert, finding your friends can be difficult in the big parks. How would you describe the location of your favorite hiking spots or that delicious Takoyaki stall in the busy streets of Tokyo?

 

With the Tokyo Olympics coming, and Japan expecting a wave of tourists, what3words will be the simplest way of communicating and finding the location.

 

what3words is already being used throughout Japan, with restaurants and hotels listing their what3words addresses to help guests find them. In November 2018, what3words received investment from the Sony Innovation Fund, which is dedicated to engaging with promising and innovative startups in areas such as robotics, artificial intelligence and more.

 

Nothing really related to the previous question, but we can’t help asking this to our blog guests! Do you have a favorite Japanese food? If yes, which one?

 

Absolutely! I am a big fan of Japanese ramen and sushi. My favorite one is Lax Avacado which is a specialty of my favorite restaurant in Ulaanbaatar. It is fresh in my mind from my first visit to Japan about 11 years ago, eating shabu-shabu, of which I found the name and taste to be so unique. Something I really want to try again the next time I visit to Japan (after Covid), potentially with the Arigato Japan team, is to go on a food tour 🙂

 

Do you have a favorite Japanese restaurant? Can you please share with us the what3words address for it?

 

I enjoy going to the Stockholm sushi restaurant located near my office in Ulaanbaatar ///sooner.intention.nest. Highly recommend it when you visit Mongolia!
