Date Ideas for a Romantic Valentine’s Day in Tokyo!
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Let it serve as a reminder to celebrate the love you have in your life — whether that love is for a romantic partner, good friends, or just yourself. We are here to help you make your plans for a lovely date. If you’re lucky enough to be spending the day in Tokyo, I have compiled a list of date ideas that are sure to make your heart feel full.
Sweets Centered Afternoon Coffee Date
Satisfy your sweet tooth this Valentine’s Day with an afternoon date for coffee and treats. Many cafes throughout the city will likely be offering special, heart shaped treats that are bound to taste better when shared. So, take advantage of the opportunity to put a more personal twist on the classic box of chocolates gift by making a date out of it! Dandelion Chocolate has two locations in Tokyo and is regarded as a particularly good date spot — with a relaxed atmosphere and specialty sweet treats like their Brownie Bite Flight, what’s not to love? However, if you’re in the mood for alcohol instead of coffee, head to Cacao Store as they can recommend delicious pairings of wine and chocolate. You can even choose a chocolate tasting with your date to explore different flavors and find your favorite!
A Romantic Stroll
If the sun is out, grab a coat and take a stroll through one of Tokyo’s many gardens or parks. Personally, I would recommend either the Imperial East Garden or heading to Odaiba where you can stroll along the water. Both are beautiful, large areas that will allow you to avoid the crowds and enjoy a peaceful moment outside, semi alone with your special person. Soaking up the sun and its Vitamin D on a crisp winter day is a sure way to keep you feeling elated this February 14th.
Shibuya Sky Scramble
Before dinner time, as the sun begins to set, make your way up to the Shibuya Sky observation deck for a breathtaking view of Tokyo that seems to stretch as far as your eyes can see. The rooftop, open air stage with panoramic views means you’ll have no trouble enjoying the sun set above the city. Moreover, there are plenty of places to sit including multiple “cloud hammocks” which are perfect for cozying up with your person while the sun’s light disappears and becomes replaced by Tokyo’s bright city lights. Note: if you get cold on the top deck, there is even a bar on the 46th floor where you can sit, grab a refreshment, and still enjoy the view.

Peter at the Peninsula
Looking for a fancy dinner to impress your significant other for Valentine’s Day? Peter at the Peninsula Hotel is probably one of the best choices you could make. Not only do they offer a great view and premium meat cuts that will leave your mouth watering, but the design of some of their tables amplifies the romantic ambiance as well. Rather than sitting across the table from your date, you could cozy up in a booth together which makes for not just a more comfortable, but a more intimate dinner.
Stargazing
Personally, I think stargazing is one of the most simple and romantic activities you could do with the person you love. However, in a city filled with so much life and corresponding lights, seeing the stars can be a difficult task. Planetariums offer the perfect solution and are a great date spot for those hoping to have a magical moment this upcoming Valentine’s Day. In Chiyoda, Planetaria Tokyo is open until 9pm so you and your special someone can end your day sitting and holding hands below the stars, appreciating the breathtaking beauty that is all around.
From sweet treats in a busy cafe to quieter moments alone in nature, there are limitless (covid-friendly) ways that you can spend your Valentine’s Day this year. Whatever you decide to do, take advantage of the day and choose something (and someone) that makes you appreciate life, makes you smile, and makes you want to share your love with others — you’ll be glad you did!
