A World Tour on Tap: Inside Tokyo Solamachi’s World Beer Museum

Located on the 7th floor of Tokyo Solamachi right beneath Tokyo Skytree, World Beer Museum offers a one-of-a-kind culinary journey across the globe. Following a major renovation, the restaurant reopened on March 6, 2025, with an updated concept, modernized interior, and a fresh, dynamic atmosphere. Part restaurant, part immersive tasting hall, the sprawling establishment now highlights approximately 100 varieties of draft beer, offering an unbeatable lineup of regional brews and rare imported lines directly from key brewing nations.

With a total of approximately 350 seats across its open indoor dining hall and a 150-seat outdoor terrace offering direct views of Tokyo Skytree, it stands as Tokyo’s premier destination for beer enthusiasts and curious diners alike.

We spoke with the team at World Beer Museum Solamachi to learn more about what visitors can expect when they step inside their newly renovated space.

Hi, could you please introduce yourself and your role, give us an overview of World Beer Museum, and share a bit about the updated concept following your March 6, 2025 reopening?

My name is Akihito Mizumoto, and I am a Supervisor at World Beer Museum Tokyo Skytree Town Solamachi.

World Beer Museum is a restaurant where guests can experience beers from around the world as well as the food cultures of different countries, all in Tokyo.

We reopened on March 6, 2025, following a major renovation. We completely redesigned the layout and interior, creating a more open and welcoming space where more guests can enjoy our selection of international beers and food.

With this renovation, we wanted to create more than simply a place where people can drink a large variety of beers. Our goal was to create a place where guests can discover different cultures and cuisines through beer.

We renovated the restaurant with the idea that “you can feel as though you have traveled around the world while visiting Tokyo Skytree.”

Inside the restaurant, we have several themed bar counters equipped with more than 100 beer taps, allowing guests to enjoy beers from countries around the world.

Together with our location directly beneath Tokyo Skytree, we hope to be a restaurant where both international visitors and local guests can enjoy a “world tour in Tokyo.”

You feature a massive variety of beers; with approximately 100 varieties of draft beer, what are a few popular options right now, and do you also offer non-alcoholic choices?

We currently offer more than 100 varieties of draft beer, giving our guests the opportunity to explore a wide range of beers from around the world.

Our selection includes German lagers and wheat beers, Belgian Trappist beers, English ales, American IPAs, and many other styles. Since the flavors and characteristics can vary greatly depending on the country and style, we believe there is always something new to discover, not only for beer enthusiasts, but also for people who do not usually drink beer.

For first-time visitors, we recommend starting with a country or flavor profile that they already enjoy and then exploring something new from there.

We also offer a variety of cocktails for guests who do not drink beer, as well as non- alcoholic drinks for those who do not drink alcohol.

Alongside your international brews, do you feature any unique or local Japanese craft beers on tap that travelers and beer fans should definitely try?

Absolutely. While we are known for our selection of international beers, we also want our guests to discover the growing world of Japanese beer.

Japanese craft beer has been influenced by traditional brewing cultures from around the world, while also incorporating uniquely Japanese ingredients and ideas.

For visitors from overseas, we believe that trying beers brewed in Japan is an important part of the experience. After all, if you have traveled all the way to Japan, why not discover some of the beer that is being created here as well?

On August 6, 2026, our company opened its own brewery in Kamakura.

At World Beer Museum, guests can enjoy a selection of carefully crafted beers from our brewery, including a rice lager made with Japanese rice, Hazy IPA, Blonde Ale, and Belgian Dubbel.

We hope these beers will give our guests another opportunity to discover the creativity and diversity of Japanese craft beer.

With the new interior layout and the 150-seat open-air terrace directly beneath Tokyo Skytree, what can guests expect from the overall atmosphere?

Following the renovation, the restaurant has a more open and spacious atmosphere, allowing guests to enjoy both the international beer selection and the unique atmosphere of our themed bar counters.

One of our biggest attractions is our 150-seat open-air terrace. Guests can enjoy food and beer while taking in a close-up view of Tokyo Skytree, making the terrace especially popular on beautiful days.

From spring through summer, we also offer BBQ plans on the terrace, allowing guests to enjoy a more casual outdoor dining experience while looking up at Tokyo Skytree.

With approximately 350 seats in total, including both the indoor dining area and terrace, we can accommodate a wide range of occasions, from small groups and families to larger gatherings.

We want guests to be able to stop by during their Tokyo sightseeing, enjoy a beer while looking at Tokyo Skytree, and see that time itself as part of the experience.

What are some of your favorite food dishes to recommend to guests pairing a meal with their drinks?

If you are going to enjoy beers from around the world, we definitely recommend enjoying them together with our food.

We offer a variety of dishes that pair well with beers from different countries, particularly dishes inspired by the food cultures of Europe, where beer has a long and rich history.

For example, sausages and fried dishes pair especially well with lagers and are also great for sharing while enjoying a few different beers.

You can also choose dishes based on the character of the beer. Richer and fuller-bodied beers can pair beautifully with meat dishes, while lighter beers work well with seafood, salads, and other lighter dishes.

For first-time visitors, our staff is also happy to recommend food pairings based on the beer they choose or the flavors they enjoy.

Do you offer all-you-can-drink options or set course menus for groups visiting the restaurant?

Yes. We offer all-you-can-drink options and set course menus for guests visiting in groups.

Our all-you-can-drink plans are particularly popular with guests who want to try a variety of beers from around the world.

We also offer courses that combine food and drinks, making them suitable for a wide range of occasions, including meals with friends, company gatherings, and groups of travelers.

For groups, we also recommend ordering different beers and sharing them. This is a fun way to compare different styles and discover new favorites together.

Do guests need to make reservations or are walk-ins welcome throughout the day, and when are your best non-peak hours?

Walk-in guests are always welcome.

However, the restaurant can become busy on weekends, public holidays, and during the evening, so we recommend making a reservation if you would like to ensure a table.

For guests who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, we recommend visiting before the dinner rush, particularly around 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.

This can also be a great time to take a break from sightseeing around Tokyo Skytree and enjoy a drink and a meal before the evening gets busier.

Is the restaurant easy to navigate for families with children, strollers, or guests in wheelchairs?

Yes, families are very welcome at our restaurant. Because we are located in Tokyo Skytree Town Solamachi, we have many families visiting us from both Japan and overseas.

We provide children’s chairs so that families with young children can enjoy their meals comfortably. We also welcome guests with strollers and do our best to accommodate their needs.

For guests using wheelchairs, our staff is happy to provide assistance whenever needed so that everyone can enjoy their time at the restaurant comfortably.

We hope to be a restaurant where families visiting Tokyo from overseas can feel comfortable stopping by and enjoying a meal together.

Finally, for anyone planning a visit to Tokyo Solamachi, what would you like to share with them before they stop by?

If you are visiting Tokyo, we hope you will stop by World Beer Museum. Tokyo has countless wonderful attractions, but we believe one of the unique things about World Beer Museum is that you can experience the feeling of traveling around the world without leaving one location.

You can enjoy beers from countries such as Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, and the United States while also experiencing elements of each country’s food culture.

At the same time, you can enjoy the uniquely Tokyo experience of having a meal or a beer with Tokyo Skytree right outside.

You do not have to be a beer expert to enjoy World Beer Museum. In fact, we would especially love to welcome people who are not very familiar with beer.

Simply tell our staff what flavors you usually enjoy or what kind of beer you normally drink, and we can help you discover something new.

Travel the world through beer, right here in Tokyo.

That is the experience we want our guests to have at World Beer Museum.

We would also be delighted if a visit to World Beer Museum inspires even a little curiosity about the fascinating world of craft beer.
